From the earliest times the Divine Office, in which psalms and passages from scripture have been recited at different times of the day, has been prayed by the church. The second Vatican Council emphasised that the Church was the whole people of God, and that there was a universal call to holiness. The Divine Office encourages communal prayer, develops a knowledge and love for the psalms, and increases knowledge and understanding of scripture and the liturgical year. The Office is simple and straightforward and people, young or old, will quickly become familiar with the structure of the prayer. Morning Prayer is said at St Mary’s at 8.30am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (except if there is a funeral) All welcome.
